One convicted for raping 13-year-old

A local court on Friday convicted a local man for raping a 13-year-old girl in Rivona village, 50 kms away from here.

Goa Children's court President P V Sawaikar convicted Vishal Devidas for raping the minor while quantum of sentence will be decided on September 13.

The incident dates back to December 1, 2006 when the accused forcibly entered into the house of victim and raped her by dragging her into the bedroom.

Quepem police arrested on January 5, 2007 after he was identified by the victim and her brother. The chargesheet was filed on January 1, 2008. The court had granted bail to the accused on February 6, 2007.

The medical examination conducted on the victim confirmed rape.
