Officials sat on Gali complaints
Several law enforcement agencies and state departments sat on the complaints against Gali Janardhan Reddy and Obulapuram Mining Company’s illegal mining for years.
Some of the complaints were lodged with the CBI director at Delhi, but nothing was done till the courts intervened in the matter.
On November 7, 2007, one C. Sashi Kumar lodged a complaint with the industries and commerce secretary, director of mines and geology, seeking a stop to the illegal mining at Siddapuram village.
The department received the complaint and acknowledged it on November 13, 2007, but no action was initiated.
This newspaper has the copies of the complaint filed with the agencies and government and the acknowledgement.
The complainant alleged that the officials colluded with the Obulapuram Mining Company and allowed illegal mining in Siddapuram.
Complaints were even lodged with the director of CBI, the last one of these being in April, 2010.
It was alleged then that OMC was given lease of 68.5 hectares of Antargangamma Konda of Siddapuram and Malpanagudi villages in violation of norms.
“I had forwarded the complaint, with similar complaints, to several law enforcing agencies like vigilance department, CBI, Hyderabad police and as well as the ministry of mines, pollution control board, special chief secretary as well as the Chief Minister’s office several times regarding the irregularities. But no action was initiated. The mining baron had looted and dug up the area for more than two-and-a-half years after I lodged my first complaint,” said Mr Shashi Kumar.
