NY plot: 1 held in US, 2 in Karachi
New York, May 4: As the Pakistani-born suspect in the failed Times Square bomb attack was due to appear in a New York court on Tuesday, Pakistani intelligence officials arrested two men in Karachi. Pakistani sources told Adnkronos International that US officials
had asked Islamabad for assistance in the investigation of Faisal Shahzad, the 30-year-old arrested late Monday at JFK airport in New York in relation to the failed weekend attack. Officials from Pakistan’s ISI late Tuesday detained Tauseef Ahmed, believed to be a friend with whom Shahzad stayed on a recent trip to Karachi, and his father-in-law.
Both arrested men were transferred to Islamabad. “In the light of his statement, US authorities issued a suspect list which included his father-in-law and his friend Tauseef Ahmed... We don’t have any evidence against them but these people would be interrogated for details,” a senior Pakistani security official told AKI on condition of anonymity.
