Nupur spends a night in jail
Dentist Nupur Talwar was sent to jail on Monday after she failed to get relief from various courts despite striving hard to get bail in the 2008 case of murder of her teenage daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj.
Ms Nupur surrendered on Monday morning before the special CBI court trying the case following the directive of the Supreme Court asking her to do so.
While special CBI Judge Preeti Singh refused to grant her bail, Ms Nupur’s lawyers knocked at the doors of the district and sessions Judge Bharat Bhushan pleading with him to hear her application seeking regular bail. They pleaded that if the regular bail was not being heard, the court should at least consider her interim bail plea.
Judge Bharat Bhushan referred the matter to additional district and sessions Judge Shayamlal, who rejected her plea for interim bail and posted the application for regular bail for hearing on Tuesday.
Ms Nupur, who broke down upon hearing the news that she would have to spend at least one night in jail, was immediately taken into judicial custody and spent the day at the special CBI court in the company of her husband Rajesh Talwar and a few relatives. She was taken by women constables in a police van to Dasna Jail here where her husband Rajesh had earlier spent 50 days after his arrest in the case.
In her arguments before the courts on Monday, Ms Nupur sought relief from arrest on primarily three grounds.
Her lawyer G.P. Thareja said that she should be treated on parity with her husband Rajesh who is already on bail in the case, that she is the mother of the victim and that her passport is with the court and that she has no intention to flee the country or interfere with the justice delivery in the case.
