Nothing we won’t do to clean up public life: PM
Taking the corruption issue head on, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, replying to the debate on the President’s address, told Parliament on Thursday his government would do its utmost to clean up “public life”.
Hinting that former communications minister A. Raja was solely to blame for the 2G spectrum scam, the Prime Minister pledged that no wrongdoer in the alleged scams would be spared.
He told both Houses of Parliament: “As and when we get credible, actionable evidence, action is taken. Chief ministers and ministers have resigned. The CBI is on the trail of wrongdoers. I promise there is nothing that we won’t do in order to clean our public life.”
He said he shared the concerns of MPs on allegations of corruption, and that he would be the “last person” to deny that some unfortunate developments had taken place over telecom and the Commonwealth Games. These were being addressed: the JPC had been formed to probe the 2G spectrum scam and the CBI was looking into various corruption cases. The Prime Minister said his government would “fully cooperate” with all agencies and entities “so that the truth comes out”.
