Nothing was suppressed, says ex-CJI on Raja row
The controversy over former minister A. Raja’s alleged attempt to influence a Madras high court judge over his two relatives’ bail became murkier on Wednesday with former Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishanan saying he had not “suppressed” anything on the matter and there was no reason to act against the former minister.
Contradicting Wednes-day’s statement of the then chief justice of the Madras high court, Justice H.L. Gokhale, now a Supreme Court judge, that he had brought Mr Raja’s name to the notice of the then CJI, Mr Balakrishnan, the latter issued a fresh statement saying Mr Raja’s name was not there in Justice Gokhale’s report. He added that the entire matter had been brought to the law minister’s notice.
This was Justice Balakrishnan’s second press statement in a row since December 8.
