A man was apprehended with seven cartridges as he was trying to board a Mumbai-bound flight on Sunday.
The passenger, Sushil Kumar (35), reportedly told the police that he had collected the rounds while he underwent NCC training. He was handed over to the RGI police.
The cartridges were found in Kumar’s luggage during security check. According to RGI ACP Karunakar, Kumar, a native of Kerala, told the police that he studied engineering in Chennai from 1992 to 1995 and took part in NCC. It was during this period that he apparently collected the rounds of ammunition.
“The rounds were found when he was being checked by the CISF personnel, we have sent the rounds for examination by ballistic experts,” he said, adding that action would be initiated if the cartridges turned out to be live ammunitions.
Kumar reportedly claimed that he has been working as the vice-president at a software company’s branch at Hi-tech city since the last three years and he was on his way to Mumbai as he had been transferred there.
He was released by the RGI police after a personal bond was furnished.
