North India in grip of heatwave again
Scorching heat swept most parts of North India on Saturday with high humidity posing problems for citizens as Phalodi in Rajasthan baked at 46.5ºC.
Delhiites too sweated it out as blazing sun resulted in the maximum temperature rising to 43.2ºC, four notches above normal, while the minimum settled at 27.8ºC.
The humidity too oscillated between 64 and 35 per cent. On Friday, the city had registered a maximum and minimum temperatures of 42ºC and 28.4ºC.
In the desert state of Rajasthan, the temperatures crossed the 45ºC mark at many places. Phalodi was hottest in the state at 46.5ºC followed by Kota at 46.3ºC.
Sriganganagar, Barmer, Churu recorded a maximum of 46.2ºC, 46ºC and 45.9ºC respectively while the high in Jaisalmer and Jodhpur settled at 45ºC each.
Heat wave again gripped the states of Haryana, Punjab and Union Territory Chandigarh as Hisar was hottest in the region at 45.8ºC, five notches above normal.
Amritsar endured a hot day at 44.4ºC, up by four degrees, while Ludhiana was equally hot at 44.3ºC, three notches above normal. The maximum in Patiala settled at 42.6ºC, four degrees above normal, followed by Ambala 42.3ºC, Karnal 41.6ºC and Chandigarh 40.5ºC. Himachal Pradesh also saw mercury rising at most places by one to two degrees.
