Normal life thrown out of gear in Telangana
Telangana, including Hyderabad, witnessed a total shutdown on Saturday. Normal life was thrown out of gear in the city.
Except for sporadic incidents of stone-pelting, the bandh by Telangana groups and the “Save Andhra Pradesh” meet by AP Non-Gazetted Officers’ Associations went off peacefully.
Seemandhra employees claimed that they were attacked while coming to the meet and Telangana activists alleged that they were beaten up by APNGOs at Nizam College hostel. Several pro-Telangana activists and students, who gathered at the Nizam College Hostel adjacent to the LB Stadium, hurled stones at employees from Seemandhra regions while they were making their way into the stadium. Braving the attacks by Telangana activists thousands congregated in the city for the APNGOs meet. Commissioner of police Anurag Sharma said, “The bandh went off peacefully in the city. We have arrested around 300 protesters. Except minor incidents at Nizam College hostel and Osmania University, everything was peaceful. We have asked all our forces to be alert while the APNGOs leave the city. Students hurled stones at us and we maintained restraint.”
