Nod to prosecute Chinese nationals
The Union home ministry has cleared the prosecution of the three Chinese nationals who had crossed over into the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir last month after they gave conflicting versions during sustained interrogation by security agencies.
The home ministry has asked security forces to bring the three — Salamo, Abdul Khaliq and Adil Thorsong — to Leh from the Margo post where they have been kept in detention since June 12.
The security establishment here seems convinced that the trio had complete knowledge of movement of Indian troops and their strategic locations along the border in the Ladakh sector. Sources claim that all three have been lying about the route they took to enter India. These contradictions in their statements made interrogators suspicious and they informed the home ministry as well.
The trio, who speak only Yarkandi and Uyghur languages, could not give any basic details about Kargalilik of Xianjang province from where they claimed to belong, according to the sources.
Intelligence agencies suspect that the three were possibly heading towards Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) which was about 20 km from the place they were intercepted by Indian security forces.
Interestingly, during initial questioning they had claimed that they entered India as they fans of Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan. But this investigators said was a diversionary tactic to mislead investigating agencies. Earlier they had claimed they entered India to earn money as they were facing acute poverty in their region.
They will now be handed over to the Jammu and Kashmir police for necessary legal action. They were caught with improvised swords and knives, tinned food including egg powder (useful in higher region), Chinese currency of over 900 Yuan and Chinese leather jackets. The three claimed that the jackets, discarded by the Chinese troops, were picked along the route.
