No identity crisis: Nandan Nilekani
He may be under attack from all sides, within government and outside of it, but Nandan Nilekani, chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India, isn’t about to let his detractors win.
“I am very much in the game”, Mr Nilekani told Deccan Chronicle on Friday.
The Aadhaar UID project will reach a milestone, and a crossroad, some time in February when it completes enrolling 200 million residents. That’s when it will run out of its current mandate on data collection and will need a fresh mandate.
But Union Home minister P. Chidambaram wants his department’s National Population Register to handle the data collection for both projects.
Nilekani would only say that it is for the Cabinet to decide on the issue.
