‘No free hand to ministers, they will have to perform’
Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi here on Tuesday created a fresh controversy by saying that he had given free hand to one of his ministers but now he was not going to allow him to take such advantage.
In an obvious reference to his health and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Mr Gogoi told reporters, “I am reviewing the performance of all the departments and ministers. They will have to perform. There will be no compromise on this issue.”
When asked to name the minister who was given a free hand, Mr Gogoi said, “It is not necessary. You all know but a section of media is trying to present my periodical review of various departments as vindictive and pointed against any individual minister.”
He said, “I am reviewing the performance of all the departments one by one because I want that people should not suffer because of non-performance of ministers and departments.”
