No constitutional breakdown in K’taka: Yeddy

The state government had not violated constitutional provisions and there was no constitutional break down in the state, chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said in his reply to the advisory sent by Union home minister P. Chidambaram. The Centre had sent an advisory after rejecting the governor’s recommendation for imposition of

President’s Rule. After taking legal opinion from the party central leaders Arun Jaitley and Ravishankar Prasad, Mr Yeddyurappa sent the reply to the advisory on Tuesday.
Sources told to this newspaper that in all, 11 issues have been raised in the advisory and for all 11 the issues, the chief minister answered in detail.
On the issue of calling for a state-sponsored bandh in protest against the governor’s decision to accept the letter given by 16 MLAs withdrawing their support from the government, the chief minister said that the party members voluntarily agitated against the governor’s decision.
On the alleged scams, he said that his government had appointed a judicial commission to probe the land scams in the state and a few other cases were lying with the Lokayukta. The alleged land scams cases that were before the Lokayukta prior to the setting up of Justice B. Padmaraj Commission would be investigated by the Lokayukta. Mr Yeddyurappa, however, stated that, the issue is pending before the high court and the court stayed the investigation of judicial enquiry. The investigation will continue once the court disposes of the writ petition seeking a stay on the case, sources said.
Justice B. Somashekara Commission of Inquiry had submitted its report to the state government regarding series of attack on churches in the state in 2008 and the state government has gone through the report. “Appropriate action will be taken on the issue,” the chief minister replied. Regarding illegal mining, he said the state government had banned the export of iron ore.
