No bar on planes flying over Tirumala temple
Hyderabad: The Director General of Civil Aviation has turned down the state government’s proposal to establish a no fly zone over Tirumala. It is not feasible to establish no fly zones over pilgrim places, the DGCA said.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy is determined to pursue the matter with the Union civil aviation ministry while the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams put the matter before the visiting Parliam-entary Standing Committee of the Union ministry of home affairs under the chairmanship of BJP leader L.K. Advani last month.
“The committee is also keen that the area is completely sanitised and wants the state government to take up the matter with the Centre,” TTD executive officer L.V. Subrahmanyam told this newspaper.
The reason for demanding a no fly zone above the abode of Lord Venkateswara is that nothing should be above God. Even the President of India or the Prime Minister never fly to Tirumala by helicopter but always use the road. A proposed cable car project was also shelved because of resistance from agama shastra experts.
TTD fears any sabotage will create panic inside temple
Hyderabad: Sources said the defence authorities have told the state government they have no objection to declaring Tirumala as a no fly zone as Tirumala lies outside the local flying areas of the Air Force.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) says there are security concerns with threats from Islamic fundamentalists and communal elements organising terror attacks on temples.
Any act of sabotage will create panic inside the temple leading to loss of lives and injuries besides triggering consequential reaction in the country, the state government pointed out in its communication to the Centre.
