No 24-hour power for Rae Bareli, Amethi
When political equations change, power automatically gets “cut”.
With relations between the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and the Congress getting increasingly strained, the state government has decided to withdraw the VIP status of Amethi and Rae Bareli which means that these two districts will no longer get 24 hour uninterrupted power supply.
Rae Bareli is the parliamentary constituency of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Amethi is the constituency of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
The two districts had been enjoying round-the-clock power supply along with Mainpuri, Etawah, Kannauj, Badaun, Hardoi and Rampur since the past ten months.
The decision was revoked with regard to these two districts late on Thursday night. Almost immediately after the decision, both the districts faced a prolonged five hour power cut in the night. Officials in the government refused to comment on the decision but admitted that it was “more political than administrative.” “Rae Bareli and Amethi will be treated at par with other districts because we cannot favour some district and ignore others.”
