Newborn survives swine attack outside hospital
In a miraculous escape, a newborn girl was rescued by bystanders after she was dragged by a swine outside a government hospital at Kumbhraj tehsil in Madhya Pradesh's Guna district, officials said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred after a woman delivered the baby outside the hospital on Tuesday, said officials, adding the pig was soon chased away by bystanders.
The infant was later referred to Guna district hospital, where her condition is reported to be stable.
The woman, identified as Shakkaria Bai, was being taken to Kumbhraj hospital on a tractor when she delivered the baby.
According to the woman's husband, Malkan, who hails from Eitkhedi village, he was forced to take his wife by tractor after the ambulance operating under the state government's 'Janani Suraksha Yojana' failed to turn up despite making repeated calls to the district headquarters.
Officials responded saying ambulances were not available at the time.
