New foreign secy: Talks with Pak to restart soon
India’s new foreign secretary Sujatha Singh has said the peace dialogue with Pakistan will resume soon. “We will be picking up the threads,” she said while taking charge at South Block Thursday.
Speaking to reporters, she said her first priority will be the immediate neighbourhood, adding her first visit will be to Bhutan.
On normalising relations with Pakistan, Ms Singh, a 1976-batch IFS officer, said: “There is a new government in Pakistan now. We will pick up the threads from where we left off with the old government.”
On a video now circulating where a Pakistani soldier is shown narrating details of a Kargil War encounter in which Capt. Saurabh Kalia was killed, Ms Singh said: “If there are new facts come to light, we’ll assess them and then decide how to proceed further.”
