New finance minister Mitra hospitalised
New state finance minister Amit Mitra fell ill after midnight and was admitted to a private nursing home in early hours of Saturday with acute abdominal pain.
“His condition is stable now and there is no cause for concern,” said Pradip Tondon, chief executive officer of the Belle Vue Clinic where Mr Mitra has been undergoing treatment at the intensive therapy unit.
The 63-year-old economist and former Ficci secretary general, who took the oath at the Raj Bhavan as a minister on Friday, complained of illness at around 1 am on his way home following a prolonged day at the Writers’ Buildings. He was rushed to the nursing home.
“He was admitted at 1.15 am with an acute abdominal pain due to colitis. He did not have any food on Friday. He is on a liquid diet and his condition has improved now. The finance minister is likely to be released on Monday,” added Mr Tondon.
A two-member medical board comprising critical care specialist Subrata Moitra and gastro-enterologist Manoj Agarwal is treating the minister. Union minister of state for urban development Saugata Ray and mayor Sovandeb Chattopadhyay visited Mr Mitra.
