NCP MLA in custody till March 3
NCP MLA Dilip Wagh and his personal assistant Mahesh Mali, arrested on charges of rape, were remanded to police custody till March 3 by a local court in Nashik on Sunday.
According to the Sarkarwada police, Mali surrendered a few hours after Wagh was brought to Nashik from Mumbai.
“After apprehending Wagh, we approached Mali’s family and warned them not to knowingly hide Mali as he could be declared absconding. Mali surrendered on Sunday morning,” said an officer with the Sarkarwada police station.
Meanwhile, Wagh, who was taken to the Nashik Civil Hospital for a medical check-up, complained of high BP and was admitted there for a few hours.
Wagh and Mali had gone missing after the Sarkarwada police registered a complaint of rape and criminal intimidation against them on Friday.
The complaint was registered after a 23-year-old girl alleged that she had been raped by the duo in a government guesthouse in Nashik when she had approached them for employment. Dilip Wagh was then suspended from the Nationalist Congress Party.
Mali was detained in Bandra by the Mumbai police’s crime branch on Saturday night and handed over to the Nashik police.
