Naxals lynch policeman, village official in C’garh
Suspected Maoists lynched two people — a sarpanch and a former special police officer (SPO), tribal youths recruited by Chhattisgarh government to engage them in anti-rebel operations — in two separate incidents in the state, the police said on Monday.
According to the police, a group of around 20 armed ultras stormed Bangapal village under Kodali police station in Bijapur district on Monday morning and dragged one Mirna Munda (25), a former SPO, from his house and beat him mercilessly in public view till he breathed his last.
Munda had resigned from his post last fortnight following a Maoist threat. He visited his village after a long time believing that Naxals might spare him since he quit the police job. The ultras attacked him barely a few hours after he reached home.
In another incident, a sarpanch was lynched by the Maoist rebels at Madnwada under Bhanpur police limits in Rajnandgaon district, suspected him to be a police informer. Kanderam Gondi (34), a sarpanch of Madanwada gram panchayat, who was abducted by a group of Naxals on Saturday, was found dead by the local villagers in Karketta forest.
