Naxals gun down two policemen
A day after a red alert was issued for Gadchiroli, Naxals shot dead two policemen on Thursday. The two constables were following a lead and trying to track the Naxals’ hideouts when they were killed.
Naxalites had earlier distributed pamphlets in Gadchiroli warning the police to withdraw operation Green Hunt against them or face dire consequences. They had also threatened to repeat a Dantewada-like massacre. The police has now formed several teams to investigate the matter.
At around 12 pm on Thursday, constables Balaji Bhosle and Tushar Bandewar stepped out of the police station and went to the village to make inquiries on a tip-off they received. The village was located around four kilometres away from the police station. “While they were returning around 1 pm from the village, Naxalites shot them at an isolated location. We received a call in the control room from the villagers who saw their bodies lying in a pool of blood,” said inspector P. Bansure from Gadchiroli.
According to Mr Bansure, the constables were immediately taken to the hospital where they were declared dead on admission.
