Naxals devise new way to hit target areas
The Maoists are beginning to adopt a new modus operandi for hitting specific targets, particularly in urban areas, for which they have started recruiting children from schools and women. Sources said since women and children avoid suspicion they are being divided into ``special action groups’’ and given training in use of weapons. They are mostly being armed with sophisticated pistols.
Intelligence agencies have recently sent an advisory to major Naxal infested states like Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh etc. directing their special branches to be on the look out for such groups. The Maoists, the advisory goes on to add, may well be using these action groups to specifically target key individuals like politicians, contractors and government officials.
Sources said most of the women and children being recruited are related to the Naxals sympathisers in urban centres like metros. ``Its not as if the Naxals will be using these special action groups in big cities but will focus more on urban and semi-urban towns including state capitals in areas under their domination,’’ a senior para-military official remarked.
The state police which are facing Maoist violence have also been directed to carryout a fresh threat perception of potential targets. Security official said while the Maoists are known to have included children among their ranks for covert operations in urban centres.
