Naxal killed in C’garh
At least one Maoist was on Tuesday gunned down in an encounter with security personnel inside Ghumra forest in Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-hit Bijapur district, the police said. The police also claimed to have found tell-tale evidence of injuries to several other rebels in the encounter site.
In an intelligence-based operation, two search parties, comprising district force of Chhattisgarh police and special police officers, tribal cops recruited to guide security personnel in anti-Naxal operations, surrounded a group of armed Left wing militants, camping at the foot of a hill in the forest, leading to fierce gunbattle between them.
“The exchange of fire lasted about two hours, in which nearly 60 rounds of bullets were used by the security personnel. There were around 15 ultras in the camp”, Bijapur district superintendent of police, R.N. Das, said.
