Narrow escape for securitymen
A search party of security personnel on Sunday escaped a major attack by Naxals at Karlaghar in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur district, when they timely detected a landmine, planted in their route, and defused it, the police said. The search team comprising 25 jawans of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) and district force (DF) spotted a wire in a roadside bush that led them to the landmine, buried under road, when they were conducting area domination operation in the forested area of Karlaghar, reports our correspondent. The team also recovered a container bomb and five detonators in the nearby area. The bomb disposal squad accompanying them defused the landmine and the container bomb, a senior police officer said.

Mahasweta devi is stable: docs
Kolkata: The condition of renowned writer and activist Mahasweta Devi, who was hospitalised after sudden illness, was stated to be stable Sunday. “She is fine. She is stable,” the nursing home, where the 85-year-old Magsaysay award winner is undergoing treatment, said. She was taken to the state-run SSKM Hospital Saturday after she complained of uneasiness and nausea. She was later shifted to the private nursing home and admitted to its intensive therapy unit. The nursing home said her illness was due to fluctuations in the blood sugar level.

6 of family killed in car accident
Coimbatore: Six members of a family, including two women and as many children, were killed on Sunday when their car collided with a bus at Kundadam, about 95 km from here, the police said. While three died on the spot, the others were declared brought dead at a nearby private hospital. The family was returning home in Tirupur after visiting a temple near Dindigul when the mishap took place, the police said.
