Naidu slams BSY over LK
Making it more than evident that the BJP central leadership is in no mood to tolerate rebel leader B.S. Yeddyurappa’s criticism for too long, senior leader Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday remarked that it was not fair on BSY’s part to criticise BJP patriarch L.K. Advani and drag him into petty political issues.
Speaking to reporters in Bnegaluru on Sunday, Naidu said: “Advani is the tallest leader of BJP and we all, Yeddyurappa included, grew under him. It is not fair of him to attack Advani.”
He also defended BJP general secretary Ananth Kumar, whom Yeddyurappa had targeted for his alleged involvement in the HUDCO and Ashoka group of hotels disinvestment scams and asserted that the allegations were factually incorrect. “The disinvestment of Ashoka group of hotels was made by the disinvestment ministry and not the urban development ministry which was handled by Ananth Kumar during NDA rule . The allegations are far from the truth,” he said.
When asked about the party stand on Yeddyurappa and whether the former CM was not indispensable, Naidu said he did not want to answer the question. “The issue is being handled by others in the party. However, Yeddyurappa was with the party for a long time. The BJP has supported him at every stage and given him his share of importance. Now if he wants to leave the party for some reason, it is his personal decision.”
“People support a party on the basis of its ideology and performance and not because of individuals. I do agree that individuals make contributions. But we are in the party because of its ideology and not because of individuals. We are confident that BJP members will work hard to ensure the party comes back to power,” Naidu added.
