Naidu seeks dual benefit
Hyderabad: N. Chandrababu Naidu, the senior-most politician in the state, is currently busy strategising how to get electoral advantage in both the regions after the state’s division.
The 65-year-senior politician, who wants to make a comeback in Seemandhra and Telangana, is currently holding a series of consultations with elite sections of the society for suggestions regarding how to overcome the disadvantages the party is facing in both the regions.
From September, Naidu, along with other party leaders, will reach out to people in both the regions to enhance the party’s image.
For example in Telangana, the Congress will try to get political advantage by campaigning that that it has granted Telangana. Similarly, the TRS too will tell the electorate that it fought for a T-state. In such a scenario, the TD — with its superior organisational setup and significant leadership — has to decide what its poll plank will be.
In Seemandhra, Naidu fears that the Congress will state that it had to concede Telangana because the TD and YSR Congress insisted on it. And while the people of Seemandhra might not believe the Congress, it might still be enough to dent the TD’s vote-share.
With TRS only confined to Telangana and the YSR Congress to Seemandhra, Naidu wants to take on both parties in their respective regions. Naidu is also visualising a situation in the next polls wherein the TRS and the YSRC might have electoral tie-ups with the Congress in the two different regions. He is thus forming strategies to counter that too.
Knowing the TD’s strengths and weaknesses, Naidu is particular about addressing the genuine issues facing both the regions and has come up with plans so that people will not “misunderstand” the party. As far as the state’s division is concerned, the TD will try to communicate to the people that the Congress has done everything for electoral gains and not to address the genuine issues concerning the people.
