Mysterious death of deputy CMO: Five jail staffers suspended
The jailor and four other prison staffers were on Thursday suspended in connection with the mysterious death of deputy chief medical officer Y.S. Sachan, the main accused in CMO B.P. Singh murder case, in Lucknow jail.
“Jailor of the Lucknow jail, a deputy jailor, a head constable jail guard and two guards have been placed under suspension on charges of dereliction of duty,” an official spokesman said here.
He said that based on the preliminary report, a departmental inquiry has also been ordered against the suspended staffers.
The main accused in the murder of chief medical officer (family welfare) B.P. Singh, Sachan was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside the Lucknow district jail hospital in Wednesday after which the government ordered a judicial probe into the incident.
“According to jail superintendent B.S. Mukund and doctor V.P. Tripathi, Y.S. Sachan was found dead in the toilet of the hospital,” inspector general of jail V.K. Gupta had said.
“Prima facie, it seems to be a case of suicide and postmortem is being conducted,” Gupta said.
Sachan was named in CMO murder case as the main accused by the police following the arrest of three persons by the special task force on June 17.
Singh was shot dead by unidentified persons on the morning of April 2 when he had gone out for a walk.
Sachan was arrested immediately after Singh’s murder when the investigating agencies detected swindling of funds to the tune of several crores of rupees in the implementation of the National Rural Health Mission in Uttar Pradesh.
Sachan’s name was also linked to the murder of another CMO (family welfare) Vinod Kumar Arya who was shot dead in October 2010.
