Muzaffarnagar stalls Assembly
The Opposition mounted a blistering attack on the Akhilesh Yadav government on the opening day of the UP Assembly on Monday and did not allow the House proceedings to be held.
As soon as the House assembled, Opposition members trooped into the Well of the House, holding aloft banners and shouting slogans.
BSP members climbed on their seats wearing paper caps and carrying banners with slogans like “VHP-SP ke pehle dawat, kosi parikrama ke baad adawat”. Another banner read “SP-BJP ka dekho panga, har jagah danga danga”. A BSP member carried a banner that said, “Apharan, firoti, balatkar, SP ka dekho jungle raj”.
BJP members remained put in the Well of the House and shouted slogans like “Bahu-beti ka apmaan , nahi sahega Hindustan”, UP ban gaya Danga Pradesh, CM jiske hain Akhilesh” and “Danga raj, jungle raj, isi ko kehte hain Samajwadi raj”. The Congress and RLD members were also on their toes demanding the resignation of the state government.
Amidst the pandemonium, the House was adjourned for 15 minutes but the situation remained unchanged when it re-assembled and another adjournment was forced.
Senior Congress MLA Pramod Tiwari said that those responsible for engineering riots in Muzaffarnagar were trying to scuttle a debate on the issue. He said that the Congress would not allow Uttar Pradesh to turn into another Gujarat.
UP parliamentary affairs minister Azam Khan echoed similar sentiments and said that the communal fire was being stoked in the state in a planned manner.
He alleged there was a conspiracy against the Samajwadi government and that the BJP had a divisive mentality. He said that the government was determined to initiate stern action against those found guilty.
