Muslims to protest Prez visit
Muslims in Lucknow, led by well-known Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Jawwad, will hold protests against US President Barack Obama here on Friday. The protests will be held after the Friday prayers at the Bara Imambara. ”Muslims belonging to both, Shia and Sunni sects, would oppose the visit of the US President by staging a demonstration at the Bara Imambara after the Friday prayers,” the Maulana told reporters here on Thursday.
Maulana Kalbe Jawwad is also a member of All-India Muslim Personal Law Board. The Maulana said that Muslims, by holding protests, want to draw the attention of the UPA government to the atrocities being heaped on Muslims by the US and Israel. He demanded a change in the country’s policy towards these two countries that were essentially anti-Muslim.

Nov. 4: The CPI(M) has drawn a distinction between the US administrations under George Bush and Barack Obama with party general secretary Prakash Karat stating that the Left Party MPs would listen to the American President when he addresses Parliament.
“On the same day, there will be demonstrations and meetings all over the country voicing the opinions of the Indian people. President Obama should listen to them,” Mr Karat said in an article in the forthcoming issue of party organ People’s Democracy.
CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said on Thursday that party MPs would listen to Mr Obama’s address in Parliament, even as its Left ally Forward Bloc said its three MPs would abstain.
