Mumbai blasts: Ex-SIMI men from Kerala under scanner
Despite reports of Kerala links to the Mumbai blast, police sources said that so far no person from the state has been taken into custody by the Anti-Terrorist Squad or any other agency in connection with the blasts.
However, certain former activists of the banned SIMI are under the intelligence scanner since the blasts.
Though there were reports that one Riyasul from Kasargod district was among those taken into custody by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad from Karnataka two days back, police sources said that he hailed from a place in north Karnataka.
Incidentally the name of the place was similar to Kasargod and hence it was wrongly reported.
“So far we have no official communication regarding any Kerala links to the Mumbai terror strikes,” said the director-general of police, Mr Jacob Punnoose.
“However, those with previous history of terror links would obviously be under scanner.”
There are unconfirmed reports of one Shabeer from north Kerala, who is working in the Gulf, having links with the Islamic extremist outfits like the Indian Mujahideen and a newly formed Jam-iyyat e-Islami Ansarul Muslimeen.
These outfits are suspected to have executed the blasts.
