Mumbai blasts: Cops see South India link

The police believes that the ammonium nitrate used in the bombs for Wednesday’s blasts could have been procured from Karnataka.

The police also suspects that the bombs could have been assembled at a remote place in South India and brought to the city.

“The ammonium nitrate used in the Ahmedabad blasts in 2008 was obtained from a quarrying site at a village in Karnataka by the Indian Mujahideen (IM) operatives.

At that time, the accused had also shown us the site from where they had managed to get the explosive. However, the site contractor went into hiding and we were not able to arrest him,” said an officer requesting anonymity.

The officer also said that there is a possibility that the bombs were assembled at a remote location in South India and then brought to the city.
