UP mulls force to check mining
Facing flak over illegal mining in Uttar Pradesh, the Akhilesh government is now working on a proposal to constitute a special “mining force” to check illegal mining activities in the state. MoS for mining (Independent) Gayatri Prasad Prajapati told reporters on Friday that the government was considering a proposal to set up an exclusive mining force to check illegal mining activities in the state.
The minister said fresh recruitments would be done and those employed would also be trained and also given latest arms to combat unscrupulous elements in the mining areas.
He said that the need for an exclusive force for the mining department had been felt for a long time because the ground level was incapable of checking illegal mining.
Special flying squads were formed by the officer to stop illegal mining along the Yamuna and Hindon rivers and over two dozen FIR were registered against those involved in illegal sand mining.
