‘Mulayam to take decision’

UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said on Wednesday that the Samajwadi Party’s support to the UPA government would continue and the final decision on this would be taken by party president Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Mr Yadav said, “It is true that there is upheaval at the Centre and numbers will matter for the survival of the government but as of now, we are continuing to support the UPA government. Our entire Central leadership is in Delhi and Lok Sabha is in session, therefore, any change in decision would be taken by Netaji (Mulayam).”
To a question the chief minister said that his party had extended support to the UPA to keep communal forces at bay and this was the reason for continuing support too.
However, he said that his party was fully prepared to face elections whenever they are held. “We have completed a year in office and have fulfilled majority of the promises made in the election manifesto. The organisation is prepared to face elections,” he stated. Referring to the issue of CBI being independent, the chief minister said, “It has been observed that inquiry of leaders of political parties that oppose the Congress is done with greater zeal.”
Meanwhile, the CM inaugurated and laid the foundation stones 62 projects including 45 bridges, 13 railway over-bridges and four highways worth over `1,100 crore at his official residence at 5 Kalidas Marg. The state government in the recently tabled budget had allocated `7,848 crore for construction, maintenance, repair, widening and strengthening of roads and bridges. This was `1,204 crore higher than the budgetary provision made in the last financial year.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
