Mulayam singh meets PM over food bill
Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and indicated that they discussed the food security ordinance. The SP has been opposing the government’s move, which the Congress considers a “game-changer”.
Mr Yadav is learnt to have proposed 10 changes to the Food Security Bill and told the Prime Minister that without these changes his party will not back the bill.
Mr Yadav, whose party extends external support to the UPA government, met the Prime Minister for about 30 minutes on Thursday morning, just before a Cabinet meeting. “It was a regular meeting. I don’t have to discuss with the media what I spoke about,” he said.
When asked if he discussed his party’s stand on the ordinance with the P, the SP chief said, “When we meet the PM, it is obvious that there would be some discussion.”
