Mulayam reaches out to Muslims
Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav on Saturday reaffirmed his party’s commitment to Muslim welfare and said that there will be no compromise on issues relating to Muslims.
Addressing a Muslim convention here, the SP chief played the minority card with a vengeance and said that all innocent Muslim youth who had been arrested on false terror charges will be released by the SP government.
“We have made certain promises in our election manifesto which is scheduled to be fulfilled in five years but let me assure you that we will fulfil our promises within two-and-a-half years. One year has already gone by and we have fulfilled several promises including a grant of `30,000 for all Muslim girls for higher studies,” he said.
Mr Yadav said that he had directed the state government to speed up the formalities for appointment of Urdu teachers.
The Samajwadi Party leader further said that his party will ensure implementation of Sachar Committee recommendations and will go to any length to do this. He also accused the UPA government of dilly-dallying on the issue.
Referring to his statement on the BJP, Mr Yadav said that the BJP will have to give up its anti-Muslim stand, Kashmir and Ayodhya if it wanted to increase its acceptability.
