Mulayam orders 403 UP seats’ review
Rattled by unabated electoral losses, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has set out to diagnose ills affecting the party, apart from gauging people’s preferences of candidates ahead of the 2012 UP elections. Mr Yadav has called for an exhaustive report on each of the 403 Assembly constituencies to be prepared by party observers, 160 in all, who have fanned out in each of the 80 Lok Sabha seats.
The SP chief has deputed a two-member team in each of the Lok Sabha seat in UP as part of the strategy to get ground reports. The teams of observers have been asked to make detailed analysis of each of the constituency profile, voting patterns and strengths and weaknesses of probable candidates.
The observers have been especially asked by the SP chief to find out people’s preferences when it comes to picking candidates for the upcoming Assembly polls in 2012.
“The 160 observers will soon be submitting their reports. Mr Yadav, along with senior party leaders, will go into the details of the reports. The observers’ findings will constitute the core of the party strategy for the 2012 state elections,” stated a senior party functionary.
The SP is carrying out such an exhaustive study of each of the Assembly constituency after being rattled by continuous defeats in almost all the Assembly byelections.
“The new approach to get ground reports much ahead of the state Assembly polls is a new approach adopted by the party leadership. The move has been taken by taking into account the kinds of works being carried out by the Congress under the leadership of party general secretary Rahul Gandhi. There is also a sense that BSP supremo Mayawati is also not being complacent about facing the state polls and is already working on new social engineering in the state,” said the party functionary.
The SP is pinning hope on the fact that the 160 observers’ would bring to the notice of the party leadership about measures to be taken which can bridge the gap between the party and the ruling BSP.
