Mulayam eyes power in Delhi

Buoyed up by its success in the recent Assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party is getting bolder by the day.
Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav on Saturday told party workers to get ready to capture power at the Centre now.

Addressing a group of party workers at the Samajwadi state headquarters here, he said, “This success in UP is not our goal — it is a stepping stone to a bigger goal. Our next target should be the Lok Sabha elections and each one of us has to be prepared for that. There is no time to celebrate this success and we must plunge headlong into preparing for the next challenge.”
Mr Yadav, who is spending all his time in Lucknow interacting with groups of party workers, further said that he had directed all ministers to attend to their complaints at the earliest. “Your problems and your complaints will get a quick redressal inn your government. I have asked ministers to take party workers with seriousness and ensure that their complaints are tracked. We will also take action against those police officials who target you,” he said to a thunderous applause.
The SP chief apparently wants to keep his party cadres in good humour till the next elections and said that they should also cooperate in ensuring rapid development of the state.
He directed party workers to return to their districts and try to establish a direct contact with the people. “You are our eyes and ears and you should interact with the people, particularly farmers and unemployed youth. You must make them aware of our promises and programmes and also the policies of the government. If the people have any genuine problem that needs to be addressed, you can come and tell me without any hesitation and I will take it up,” he said.
Mr Yadav is making an extra and visible effort to maintain the upbeat mood of party cadres.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
