Mufti police to scan campuses for drugs
College-goers beware! Police officials in mufti are on the prowl on all campuses in the city where drugs are being sold in increasing quantities. The police say college students are the biggest customers of the ganja mafias in the city.
All the seven drug kingpins arrested in the city in the last month, had confessed to the police that college campuses are their hot markets.
Ampoules and large quantities of ganja are being traded to city colleges every day.
“Our recent investigations have proved that dangerous drugs like LSD and lupigesic injection are easily available in college campuses here. There are agents among the students who buy drugs from kingpins and distribute them among other students," said a top intelligence source.
The cops will be deployed in the mornings and evenings when students enter and exit from colleges, says the source. “It is learnt that most of the drug trade is done in the mornings and evenings when there is a crowd outside the campus. Patrolling during these times will hopefully help us catch the agents among the students,” the source said.
Investigations have also proved that migrant labourers who sell drugs have good contacts with many college students. The drugs from northern states and places like Manali and Shimla allegedly reach the city campuses through these labourers.
Sources said different varieties of drugs are available in college campuses with prices ranging from `50 to Rs 1,000.
The police have also decided to keep a vigil on certain “notorious”schools in the district.
Meanwhile, the cops have also alerted the public to inform at the number 9497980440, if anybody is found using dangerous drugs.
