MPs want to skip check-in, security queue at IGI airport
Our MPs don’t want to queue to check-in at airports, or even for the security check. They feel VIPs like them are being denied special treatment that is their due at the IGI Airport’s new Terminal 3 (T3), where they are being required to queue up like everyone else.
Raising the matter in the Rajya Sabha, Telugu Desam member M.V. Mysura Reddy demanded that the government should intervene to ensure that MPs don’t have to stand in queue like other passengers at Delhi airport, and they are accorded special privileges.
Mr Reddy, in a special mention, said problems for “VIPs” at T3 began from the point they had to collect boarding cards.
“There are no separate boarding counters, and even VIPs have to stand in queue.”
The TDP member’s demand found support from other MPs, including those from the Congress. Mr Reddy said MPs’ personal assistants were not allowed to enter the airport, nor was the airport arranging to escort MPs up to the aircraft. Also, only 30 per cent of T3’s check-in counters were functional.
