MPs to meet Azad over resignation
The resignation episode of the 10 Telangana Congress MPs will hopefully reach a favourable conclusion on Monday when they meet AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad in New Delhi.
The next phase of the Telangana agitation, which is expected to reach its peak in August, will also be decided after Monday’s meet.
On Sunday, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar refused to entertain questions regarding the MPs’ resignations during a brief interaction with the media in New Delhi.
On his part, Mr Azad continued his efforts to placate the MPs on Sunday too and called the Telangana Congress Steering Committee chairmen K. Kesava Rao and Mr K. Jana Reddy and once again asked them to take back the resignations. Both, however, rejected the idea, reiterating their condition that only a favourable statement from the Congress leadership regarding the formation of a separate Telangana state could make them take back their resignations.
