MPs complain against AI crew
A few members of Parliament (MPs) have complained to civil aviation minister Vayalar Ravi about deficient service by some of the “rude” cabin crew of national carrier Air India which includes the cabin crew on domestic flights, well-placed government sources have confirmed. The MPs are understood to
have told the Minister that better and polite service on board is essential to boost the market share of the airline and reverse the fortunes of the cash-strapped ailing carrier.
The civil aviation ministry is likely to take up the issue with Air India soon and ask it to look into the matter, sources said. Sources added that there was a possibility that the airline could offer ground jobs to those cabin crew against whom there are a significant number of passenger complaints.
With Mr Rohit Nandan taking over as the new chairman and managing director (CMD) recently, the cabin crew of the airline are meanwhile planning to meet the chairman and managing director to explain the problems that cabin crew face.
Cabin crew sources say that some of the politicians flying on Air India make sudden unreasonable demands and get upset if the cabin crew show them the rule book. “For instance, there was one politician who insisted on being served ‘dal chawal’ (rice and pulses) on board when it was not available and the food had to be packed from the airport restaurant before the flight,” said a cabin crew member.
“Some of the politicians also get upset if they are asked not to use their mobile phones just before take-off or landing,” said a cabin crew member on condition of anonymity.
