MP: Dismiss suspended IAS officer
The Madhya Pradesh government on Saturday recommended to the Centre the dismissal of suspended IAS officer Arvind Joshi, whose official residence here was raided by the income-tax department in February 2010 and over `3 crores in cash and documents showing investment in properties and other assets running into hundreds of crores were seized.
Madhya Pradesh chief minister shivraj Singh Chouhan made this announcement at a press briefing at his residence in the state capital this evening. Mr Chouhan said that the state government’s recommendation for Mr Joshi’s dismissal comes on the basis of the inquiry report submitted by former state chief secretary Nirmala Buch. Earlier the state Economic Offences Wing had also conducted a probe in this matter, said Mr Chouhan.
The chief minister told media-persons that the Income Tax department had submitted a voluminous assessment report indicting amassing of assets grossly disproportionate to Mr Joshi’s known sources of income.
The chief minister further said that the income-tax department’s advise to the state government was that action be taken against Mr Joshi and his IAS wife Tinoo Joshi, who is also under suspension, not on the basis of the income-tax department report but after conducting an independent inquiry.
