MP Congress: `100cr scam in land allotment

Senior Congress MLA Govind Singh alleged here on Tuesday that there is a `100-crore scam in the allotment of land in Gwalior by the Madhya Pradesh Rajya Sahkari Awas Sangh (State Cooperative Housing Federation).

Mr Singh made this allegation at a press conference in the state capital. He said few ruling Bharatiya Janata Party bigwigs are involved in this scam and accused the housing federation of conspiring with builders and cooperative housing societies and throwing all procedures to the wind to allot them precious land at Gole ka Mandir in Gwalior.
Mr Singh told mediapersons that under the existing rules, the housing federation should have secured a clearance from the state town and country planning department but land was allotted to builders and housing societies without obtaining this clearance and this has also been pointed out by the Gwalior collector in his inquiry report.
Briefing further, Mr Singh told journalists that the government had misled the House in response to his Assembly question 3739 by stating that the housing federation had not entered into any agreement with the builders and housing societies whereas fact remains that the agreement was already in place on April 5, 2006.
He went on to reveal that 23.874-hectare land in Gwalior was allotted to the Housing Federation on September 26, 2008 but the agreement for this land was done in 2006.
Mr Singh said that the mandate of the State Cooperative Housing Federation is to provide land and loans to the deprived sections at concessional rates and not to allot land obtained at concessional rates to private builders. He said that the housing federation for getting advertisements published in only in Bhopal, Jabalpur and Indore and went on to allege that applications were received clandestinely and land was allotted to few selected builders and housing societies.
According to Mr Singh, land was allotted to the housing federation at `30 lakhs per hectare, whereas the present value of this land is `5 crores per hectare.
