MP BJP MLA son shot dead, 1 arrested
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Bargi, Pratibha Singh’s son Nitin (31) was shot dead in village Makanpur, falling under Belkheda police station in Jabalpur district, a little after 12.30 am on Tuesday. The police has arrested the main accused Durgesh (20) along with one of his accomplices and seized the weapon of crime.
According to information received here, the main accused, along with his friends, had reached the house of one of Nitin’s friends Kamlesh and created a ruckus there. They started pelting stones and a few shots were also fired from a licensed weapon. In this situation, Kamlesh called the MLA’s son, who reached there within a short time and gave a chase to the miscreants when they were running away from the spot. Nitin, who was in his SUV, soon cornered them and there ensued a fight in which even swords and other sharp-edged weapons are said to have been used. In the midst of the violent fight, two shots were fired, one of them hitting Nitin fatally on the chest.
Inquiries have revealed that there was a major altercation and the main accused Durgesh was beaten up by the deceased on Saturday and in the retaliation, the accused had targeted Kamlesh on Monday night. The villagers have informed the police during preliminary investigations that Nitin, who was from a dominant community, was known for throwing his weight around and had become a terror in the area.
