MP BJP chief seeks ‘death’ over price rise
President of Madhya Pradesh unit of Bharatiya Janata Party and Rajya Sabha member Prabhat Jha has written a letter to President Pratibha Patil seeking permission to commit suicide so that the Congress-led UPA government could be forced to bring down prices.
Mr Jha has forwarded copies of this letter to the Chief Justice of India, BJP president Nitin Gadkari, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley. He has drawn the President’s attention to the UPA government’s promise in 2004 that it would bring down prices within 100 days of coming to power. Today, seven years later, instead of honouring this promise, the Central government has pushed people into the jaws of death due to soaring prices, the BJP leader has observed.
While pointing out that he is not suffering due to the all-round increase in prices as much as the common man but it would be futile on his part to occupy his seat in the Upper House if he fails to think about the lives of more than 100 crore citizens of this country.
Under the UPA regime, death has become synonymous with rising prices and the issue is no longer a matter of debate, Mr Jha has emphasised.
