Most road accidents in TN, Maha: NCRB
Tamil Nadu has reported the maximum number of road accidents at 64,996, accounting for 15.1 per cent of such accidents in the country. The latest report of the National Crime Records Bureau — Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India-
2010 says that Uttar Pradesh has reported 835 cases (29.4 per cent) of rail-road accidents and Maharashtra has reported 8, 369 cases (29.6 per cent) of other railway accidents. The report says that a majority of road mishaps took place between 6 pm and 9 pm. Meanwhile, maximum number of road accidental deaths occurred in May (42,546), an increase of 5.5 per cent over 2009.
Further, among the 35 major cities, Delhi reported the highest number of deaths by causes attributable to nature (44.6 per cent) followed by Bengaluru (16.3 per cent).
According to the statistics released on Thursday, a total of 3,84,649 accidental deaths have been reported last year.
Males outnumbered females in all kinds of accidental casualties due to unnatural causes at the national level except fire accidents (where 66.6 per cent of those killed were females as compared to 33.4 per cent males), it said.
According to the report, 15 suicides take place every hour in India and a majority (69.2 per cent) of the suicide victims are married while 30.8 per cent unmarried. What is alarming is the fact that one suicide out of every five is committed by a housewife, as per the government statistics.
