MORE VIOLENCE erupts IN U.P.’s Faizabad
After a brief lull during the day, violence erupted again in Faizabad around Friday midnight in the rural areas of the district.
Group clashes, firing and stone-pelting were reported from Bhardasa area of the district and several houses and shops were set on fire.
Police sources said violence was reported from Pulwari, Babushav and Lalpur villages of Bhardasa and senior police officials have rushed to the spot with additional forces. After the clashes, the district administration had ordered the security forces to shoot at sight.
Meanwhile, Muslims were allowed to offer Id prayers in various mosques on Saturday amidst tight security. Muslim clerics led the namaaz in which the community prayed for peace and calm.
There has been no relaxation in the curfew clamped on Thursday morning and official sources said that after Friday night’s violence there was no chance of any relaxation on Saturday.
Additional forces have been deployed in the district in view of Bakrid and extensive checking of persons and houses is being carried out.
Trouble started brewing in the district on Wednesday night following an altercation between two communities during the immersion of idols of Goddess Durga.
Though two persons were reportedly killed, officials maintained that the killings were not related to communal violence but resulted from personal enmity.
