Molestation bid on train, lawyer held
Railway police on Saturday arrested an advocate for allegedly molesting a woman.
The arrested advocate identified as Niyas of Kollam is in the Rail-ways’ panel of public prosecutors. He is alleged to have tried to molest a woman, a native of Manglore, in Maveli express immediately after the train left Kollam station.
Following the complaint, the Railway police arrested him after the train reached Thiruvananthapuram station. Niyas was later let off on bail.
Later, the case was transferred to Kollam Railway police station as the incident occur-red under its jurisdiction. The allegation was that Niyas tried to catch hold of the hand of one woman who was among the group of pilgrims who were going to Kanyakumari.
The woman who was sleeping woke up as she felt that someone was trying to hold her hand. The suspicion fell on Niyas as he was seated next to her.
Though, Niyas had denied it at first. He maintained that it was not him but someone else who tried to molest the woman.
Later following interventions from fellow passengers, he apologised to the woman.
The incident was reported to the railway police. When the train reached Thiruvanan-thapuram central station, he was arrested
