Molestation, attempt to murder case on Molla

The Mamata Banerjee’s police has slapped a molestation and attempt to murder charge against veteran CPI(M) leader Abdur Razzak Molla.

The 71-year-old Mr Molla has been an eight-time MLA, winning his Assembly seat without interruption since 1972. In the past few weeks, several important CPI(M) leaders have been booked on different charges. The former housing minister Gautam Deb was interrogated for two hours by the CID in an alleged housing scam.
Former MP Sujan Chakraborty has been booked for the murder of a Trinamul Congress panchayat candidate. Mr Molla revealed Saturday that the charges against him were levelled in a three-month-old case.
“Three months ago, I was invited for a programme in Baruipur police station area, where clothes were distributed among the poor. The following day, there was a clash between CPI(M) and Trinamul Congress supporters in which some houses were damaged. I later learnt that my name was also in the FIR and I was charged with molestation,” he added.
In another incident, he was accused of firing upon TMC supporters which led to an FIR with a charge of attempt to murder against him. “Till date no police officer either came to my house or summoned me. No one even questioned me. The police also knows that these are totally false charges,” Mr Molla said.
Leader of Opposition Suryakanta Mishra said that the charges of molestation and attempt to murder slapped against a senior leader like Mr Molla were outrageous.
