‘Modi magic’ takes Chhattisgarh by storm
Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, considered a front runner in the race for BJP’s prime ministerial nominee, on Saturday drew a tumultuous response from party workers as well as the public when he arrived here on Saturday afternoon to join Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh’s “vikas yatra”, a 44-day campaign launched by the government to showcase the developmental works carried out in the state in the past decade.
A huge gathering of BJP workers and leaders at the airport gave the “controversial” BJP leader a warm reception as he stepped out of a special aircraft that flew him to Raipur from Ahmedabad.
Slogans like “Narendra Modi zindabad” and “future prime minister of India zindabad” rented the air at the airport as Mr Modi waded through the large gathering of his admirers.
In reciprocation, the Gujarat chief minister tried to reach out to almost each member of the gathering by exchanging a few words of pleasantries with most of them.
He was also greeted by onlookers and public on both sides of the road as his cavalcade proceeded to the state guest house, traversing a distance of around 25 km. After a brief halt at the guest house, he proceeded again to the airport to fly to Rajnandgaon, the venue of closing ceremony of the second phase of “vikas yatra”.
“Modi Magic” seemed to have ruled the “Vikash Yatra” venue when the massive gathering of people assembled on the occasion braving soaring mercury that touched 45 degree Celsius greeted him with slogans in praise of him. Charismatic chief minister of Chhattisgarh, Mr Raman Singh, even appeared to have faded before Mr Modi, who surcharged the atmosphere at the venue with his presence. Perhaps sensing the public mood, Mr Singh promptly declared that “Mr Modi is my leader”.
